CERI releases first policy paper on literacy, identity, and power
Press release 10 June 2025

CERI has published its first policy paper and an upcoming policy brief, “Reading the World: Literacy, Identity, and Power in Practice.” The study finds that standardized texts often miss students’ lived realities, while personalized, critically aware teaching increases engagement and learning.

Key points

  • Cultural mismatch reduces student motivation and participation.
  • Tailored materials and discussion-based teaching raise engagement.
  • Social interaction and clear student voice improve learning outcomes.

What’s next

CERI will produce classroom-ready guidance and a short diagnostic tool for school systems in Q1.
